| Peshawar's oldest cinema, built in the 1920s, was destroyed by a car bomb on 22 May 2009, killing more than ten people and injuring seventy others. As the army intensified its offensive against Taliban militants in the Swat Valley, retaliatory bombings and suicide attacks began unleash a wave of terror in cities, especially Peshawar, seen as the front line city in the "war on terror" in Pakistan. |
